Dorothy Jean Heon, 79, of Leavenworth passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 28, 2012. She was born April 1, 1933, the daughter of George C. and Bertha Currie of Louisville, Ala., both who preceded her in death.
On Dec 19, 1959, she married Normand P. Heon of Fall River, Mass. He survives at the home. Dorothy was a devoted housewife, mother, a friend to many and had many talents. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society. She offered some of her talents to make Altar cloths and vestments for several years. She became a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in 2010.
She is survived by three children, Wanda Sanborn of Lansing, Cecilia (Glenn) Hewitt of Lansing and Alexander Heon of Leavenworth; her brothers, George D. Currie of Louisville, Ala. and Billy Currie of Cataula, Ga.; five grandsons; two great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. The rosary will be prayed at 7:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Phillip Winkelbauer as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Labre’s Indian School of Ashland, Mont., or St Joseph’s Indian School of Chamberlain, S.D.
