James Edward “Jim” Duffin, 65, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away late Tuesday afternoon, March 13, 2012, from natural causes. He was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Leavenworth, the son of Gerard Daniel and Faye Ann (Smoot) Duffin.
He graduated from Leavenworth High School and attended college at the University of Kansas.
In September 1967 he married, Virginia Giese, also of Leavenworth. He was employed as an agent for Prudential Life Insurance for many years and was later employed as a claims adjuster for Armed Forces Insurance. He was an avid golfer, wood-worker, tinker, intellectual, music-lover and movie buff. He was active in scouting and youth sports and served as an elected member of the Leavenworth School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerard Duffin, Jr.; and father and mother-in-law, Charles and Della Giese.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Giese) Duffin; daughter and son-in law, Jessica and Patrick Kitchens; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Shannon (Hart) Duffin and grandchildren, Jack and Josie Kitchens and Cael and Bridgit Duffin.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony and reception will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to: Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute, Integris Baptist Medical Center, 3300 N.W.
