Dexter A. Delano, 75, of Leavenworth, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at his home. He was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Long Beach, Calif., the son of Howard and Beatrice (Coffey) Delano.
Dexter served in the Marine Corps and U.S. Army for 30 years retiring as a Sergeant Major. After retirement from the military he worked in civil service at Fort Leavenworth for 20 years and retired with a total of 50 years of federal service.
On April 13, 1957, he married Shirley Pickering in Laverne, Minn. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his two daughters, Lisa Delano of Kansas City, Mo., and Gina (Lenny) Delano Hill of Independence, Mo.; her grandchildren, Michael (Maggie) Corriston, Sarah (Nick) Brown, Ashley Kermashek and Ben Corriston; four great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bruce Delano.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Private graveside services with full military honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Saint Luke’s Hospice of Leavenworth.
