Winifred F. Kant
Winifred F. Herring-Kant, 75, of Leavenworth died Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at St. John Hospital in Leavenworth . She was born June 9, 1930 in Leavenworth the daughter of Ralph and Lillian Martin Leeper.
She attended Leavenworth Public Schools and worked for many years as a book-keeper at the Army National Bank, retiring in 1986. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 56 Auxiliary, a member of the Trinity Methodist Church . She loved to cook and flower gardening.
On June 18, 1948 , she married Howard Herring, he preceded her in death in March of 1984. She later married Charles Kant in June of 1986, he preceded her in death in 1992.
Winnie was the proud mother of three sons, William Herring, Belle Plaine, KS, Robert ( Petra ) Herring, Lansing , and Bruce (Elaine) Herring, Leavenworth . She has one grandson Michael Herring and two great-grandsons. She is survived by a sister Freda Atkinson, Leavenworth and a brother Robert Leeper, Leavenworth .
Friends may call at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home after 2:00 PM Friday with a visitation from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Muncie Cemetery . Memorials are requested to the donor's choice.
Timothy R. “Tim” Hanna
Tim Hanna, 54 of Lansing , KS died Tuesday June 7, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. He was very proud of his wife and children, he was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was born December 3, 1950 in Norfolk , VA the son of Mark and Evelyn Savage Hanna. Tim had a wonderful sense of humor and especially his ability to use puns to make people laugh. He lived to teach the Word of God and Praising his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Tim received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University and received a Masters Degree in Architecture from Hampton University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He attended the Baptist Seminary in New Orleans for a time. He was employed as a Facilities Architect for the Army for the last 16 years. First at Ft. Monroe, VA and later at Ft. Leavenworth, KS where he worked for the Director of Installation Support since 1991 as the Historical Architect for Ft. Leavenworth.
He was named the Virginia State Banjo Player of the Year in his youth. He played in various Bluegrass Gospel Groups in the area along with his son Josh. He participated in local shows and church programs. He loved flying and was a flight instructor, an avid woodworker and landscaper. He was a member of the Victory Assembly of God in Bonner Springs , KS .
He married Becky Simmers in Shawnee , KS on October 5, 1996 ; she survives at the couple's home. Other survivors include a daughter Lori Hanna, Naperville , IL , a son Joshua Hanna, Virginia Beach , VA. , a sister Dorothy Bonney, New Church , VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Mark Hanna Jr. in 1998.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at the Victory Assembly of God with Rev. Norman Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery in Lansing . Rev. Floyd Allen Bratcher went Home to be with the Lord June 5, 2005 . He was born September 22, 1932 at Ft. Riley , KS to Sylvester Lee and Dora George Bratcher. They preceded him in Glory together with his twin brother, Fred Richard Bratcher, his high school buddy Bob Miller and his Uncle Harry and Aunt Esther Webb.
He grew up in Kansas City , MO and graduated from Central High School , Class of 1950, where he excelled in sports. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the military and fought heroically in the United States Marine Corp in the Korean Conflict. Before leaving for basic training, he met the love of his life, Sallie Weadon. They were united in marriage when he returned from Korea on May 18, 1953 .
He entered Kansas City Bible College in 1954, and in 1955 entered Baptist Bible College in Springfield , MO. He was ordained at the Kansas City Baptist Temple in 1956 and graduated BBC in 1957 with a theology degree. He and his wife and children served ten churches and home missions prior to his failing health.
He fought a courageous, progressive battle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from his battleground military service in addition to heart and lung failure, which also advanced with age. His battles are now over and he is where he wanted to be all these many years, celebrating eternal life with Jesus Christ, His Savior and Lord. We know he was greeted by his family, friends and the many souls he won for the Lord who had gone on before him.
Survivors include his wife Sallie, children Revs. Lawrence and Patricia Bratcher-Chilkewitz, Rev. Timothy and Kathy Bratcher and Rob and Ruth Bratcher-Beaudoin. Grandchildren Jason, Justin, Janessa, Jeremy, Jesse, Sarah , Jordan , Matthew, Alan and Jaydee. Great-Grandchildren- Lydia , Grace, Elijah. Siblings, Lee and Jean Bratcher, Kathleen Bratcher, Bob Russell and Melba Bratcher. Many nieces and nephews-Bratchers, Weadons, Russells, Warners, Monteils and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Friday, June 10, 2005 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home with Dr. Stanley Upchurch officiating. Katherine L. Rizzo
Katherine L. Rizzo, 87, formerly of Leavenworth died Monday, May 30, 2005 at Sweetlife of Rosehill Retirement Center in Shawnee Mission, KS.
She was born October 12, 1917 in Holton , Michigan the daughter of Victor and Paulina Gasparich Vukonich. She married Nicholas J. Rizzo on October 12, 1940 , he preceded her in death on July 28, 2000 .
She worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Detroit for 28 years and they moved to Holiday , Fl. There they lived for 27 years before moving to Louisville , KY in Sept. of 2000. She later moved to the Leavenworth and Kansas City area in July of 2002.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Nick and Kathy Rizzo of Leavenworth , KS . Grandson and daughter-in-law Nicky Rizzo and Janet Rizzo of Detroit , MI . A grandson Nicholas Rizzo of Leavenworth , step-grandchildren Ron and Jonathan Carrington of Leavenworth , KS . Granddaughters Kim and Kathy Rizzo. A sister-in-law and brother-in-law Andy and Claire Assaro of Detroit , MI. A special niece and husband Pat and George Breitenbach of Louisville , KY and many more nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, 4701 10 th Ave. , Leavenworth , KS 66048 . Inurnment will take place Monday 6, 2005 at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit , MI. Frieda M. Mongold
Frieda M. Mongold, 72, of Springdale , KS died at her residence on Friday, May 27, 2005 . She was born June 11, 1932 in Bremerhaven , Germany . She married Thurlow E. Mongold, they later divorced. She was a Certified Medical Aide and worked at the Winchester Geriatric Center until her retirement in 1993. She was most proud with becoming a Naturalized Citizen in 1980.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane Howard and her fiancé Tom Baumgarten, Susan (Rob) Noble, Springdale, Judy Mongold, Colorado Springs, CO. Five sons Don (Edie) Mongold, Leavenworth , Thurlow Mongold, KCMO, Gerry Mongold, Topeka , KS , Curtis Mongold, Springdale and Larry Mongold, Lee's Summit , MO. Six brothers and six sisters all of Germany. One grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:- 1:30 PM. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at St. Thomas Cemetery , Springdale . Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association.
"Pat" Patzwald
Richard T. “Pat†Patzwald Sr., 82, of Leavenworth died Friday, May 27, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital . He was born October 21, 1922 in Milwaukee , WI , the son of Herman E. and Evelyn G. Buckner Patzwald.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him through his years of working various places to include Goodjohns Window and Sash, but mostly his years with the Leavenworth Fire Dept. He was a firefighter with the Leavenworth Fire Dept for 12 yrs and then became Chief, which he held for 14 years until his retirement in 1984. He was known by his fellow firefighters as the “Fireman's Chiefâ€. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II being honored by so many for his service from Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion, the Rhineland , The Ardennes ( Battle of the Bulge), Northern France and Northern Europe . He was a recipient of the Freedom Medal from France and his name appears on the Wall of Valor at the WW II Memorial in Washington DC . He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the United Brethren Church .
He married Fauna Mae Myers, she preceded him in death. He then married Annette Marie Pellman on Jan. 24, 1953 in Platte City , MO. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1999 . He married Kay Wells in Aug. 2004, she survives at the home. Other survivors include a daughter Patsy (Donald) Beaman, Leavenworth , KS . Gary (Betty) Patzwald and Richard (and the late Pamela) Patzwald Jr. both of Leavenworth . Nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Two sisters Hazel Brown, Williamsburg , KS and Genevieve (Susie) Talbot, Leavenworth , KS . He was preceded in death by his step-father Royal Barteman, a brother Robert Patzwald, three granddaughters Catherine and Kathleen Patzwald and Tish McFadden.
Friends may call at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home after 3:00 PM Tuesday with a visitation from 6-8 PM . .Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Trusty officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery . Following the committal service, friends and family will gather in the Community Room at the funeral home for a time of fellowship. Juliette L. ((Plumberg) Woods
Juliette (Plumberg) Woods, 84, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2005 at the Hospice of Marion County in Ocala , FL. Juliette had a contagious zest for life, a soul warming smile, and an inspirational compassion for humanity. She was the only child of August and Clementine Bartkoweskie, and a life-long resident of the Kansas City area. After high school Juliette attended Ursuline Academy in Paola , KS . She fell in love with Frank Thomas Plumberg and they were married in 1940, he preceded her in death in 1984. They were blessed eleven children, one of whom, Sharon Dodson, preceded her in death. Love found Juliette again when she met Cecil Eugene (Gene) Woods and they were married in 1996.
Juliette is survived by her husband, Gene Woods and ten children, Tom Plumberg, Baldwin City, KS, Judy Mahamarian, Ft. Lee, NJ, David Plumberg, Oklahoma City, OK, Bob Plumberg, Parkville, MO, Jerry Plumberg, Houston, TX, Peggy Burke, Ocala, FL, Bill Plumberg, Blue Springs, MO, Chuck Plumberg, Denver, PA, John Plumberg, Vancouver, WA, Mark Plumberg, Oak Harbor WA; three step-sons, Craig Woods, St. Louis, MO, Curtis Woods, Kansas City, MO, Clark Woods, Orlando, FL, 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren.

Jocelyn J. Runnebaum
Jocelyn June Runnebaum, 54, of Lansing , KS , passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at her home.
She was born the daughter of Norman and Alice (Wahaus) Highfill on October 23, 1950 , in Leavenworth .
he married V. Leo Runnebaum on May 24, 1975 in Leavenworth , He survives at the home.
Jocelyn lived in Leavenworth County all of her life. Jocelyn worked a couple of years for the Lansing School district and worked several years for Hallmark Cards. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lansing . She loved reading, puzzles, spending time with family, and the outdoors. Jocelyn will be best remembered for her amazing strength and fearless personality.
Survivors include her husband,V. Leo Runnebaum: two daughters, Sara (Richard) Lange of Lansing and Amy (Jason) Slaughter of Leavenworth: one Stepson, Michael (Lilani) Runnebaum of Joplin, MO; one stepdaughter, Cheryl (Harold) Shockley of Pineville, MO; two grandchildren, Blake Slaughter and Jessica Lange; five step grandchildren, Tyler Shockley, Kilby Shockley, Kayla Runnebaum, Seth Shockley, and Shane Runnebaum; three brothers, Terry (Ann) Highfill, Jon (Brenda) Highfill, and Randy (Coral) Highfill, all of Leavenworth; one sister, Shelley (Pat) Whalen of Middletown, DE and several nieces and nephews.
Jocelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Alice Highfill; and one sister, Sharon Wells.
A Mass of Resurrection will be 11 am Saturday May 28, at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church 900 Ida, Lansing, with Father Roy Ontiveros, as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm with a parish rosary being recited at 7:00 PM Friday at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, where friends may call after 3 pm . In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the St Francis de Sales Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
Al Michael Treat
Al Michael Treat, 17 of Leavenworth went home to be with the Lord on Saturday May 21, 2005 .
Al was born April 12, 1988 in Sarasota , Florida the son of the late Edward Michael (Mike) Treat and Debbie McManus-Treat. After his dad's death, the family relocated back to Leavenworth . He was a Junior at Leavenworth High School .
He is survived by his Mom of the home, Two sisters Holly Jo Treat, Leavenworth and Brooke Marie Martinez and her husband Edgardo, Leavenworth, one niece Skylea and one nephew Mateo, he is also survived by his maternal grandparents Lavern and Josephine McManus, Easton and his paternal grand mother Ella Mae Treat, Leavenworth, Other survivors are many Aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Al was preceded in death by his father Mike Treat in 1988, his grand father Ed Treat in 2001 and his great grand parents.
Al had many friends young and old. He was a member of the First Baptist Church , He especially enjoyed family gathering, Al enjoyed all types of music, Al loved the outdoors, playing football, fishing, and riding horses. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends working on cars. Al Loved his family and will be missed deeply “Shine on Alâ€
Visitation will be Tuesday May 24, 2005 from 6 to 8 pm at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2 pm . Thurlow E. Mongold
Thurlow E. Mongold, 75, of Leavenworth died Saturday, May 14, 2005 at Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth . He was born May 5, 1930 in Topeka , KS the son of James and Buleah Jacobus Mongold. He served in the U.S. Army, retiring as an SFC, receiving numerous citations and medals during his time of serving in Vietnam . He worked as an LPN for Munson Army Hospital at Fort Leavenworth , KS for twenty years, retiring in 1990.
He married Frieda Greensman in Germany and they later divorced. Survivors include three daughters Diane Howard, Susan (Rob) Noble both of Leavenworth . Judy Mongold, Colorado Springs, CO. , five sons Don (Edie) Mongold and Curtis Mongold both of Leavenworth, Thurlow Mongold and Larry Mongold both of KCMO, Gerry Mongold of Topeka, KS. Six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Thurlow's very good friend and neighbor, Doris Shelton of Leavenworth . One brother Fredrick Mongold preceded him in death.

Patricia A. Mazeitis
Patricia A. Mazeitis, 65, of Leavenworth died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center . She was born May 8, 1940 in Oil City , PA and was raised by her mother Helen Walsh in Titusville, PA..
She had nursing career that spanned 44 years, 20 of which were in Intensive Care. She was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, WOWS, (Women of Wall Street), and volunteered for the Leavenworth Assistance Center .
She married Frank Mazeitis on April 25, 1964 in Unity, PA, he survives at the home. Other survivors include three daughters Michelle (Tom) Morgan, Parkville , MO , Renee (Richard) Joyce, KCMO, Heather Mazeitis, Ruston, LA. Two sons Drew (Shawna) Mazeitis, Parkville , MO and Derek (Dana) Mazeitis, Lansing , KS . Ten grandchildren, Ian, Jake, Gabrielle, Connor, Avery, Kallen, Grace, Cole, Wyatt, and Aidan. One brother Richard (Dawn) Walsh, Leavenworth , KS , one sister Shirley (Raymond) Henly, Clymer , PA. She was preceded in death by her parents a child and two aunts.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday at St. Casimir Catholic Church with Father Phil Winkelbauer as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery . John D. Koester, J r .
John D. (JD) Koester, Jr., 48 of Leavenworth died Monday, May 2, 2005 at his home in Leavenworth , KS . He was the son of John D. and Brenda Forbes Koester, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include a daughter Jessica Bryant Koester, Port Angeles , WA , his father John D. Koester of Carolina Shores , NC , two sisters Jeanne Koester Darrigan, Fayetteville , NC , Julie Koester Carnahan, Laurinburg , NC . His maternal grandparents Jack and Jeannette Forbes, Fayetteville , NC and two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother. Graveside services with military honors will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 9, 2005 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with Chaplain Sam Sanford officiating. There will be no visitation. Inge R. Jorgensen
Inge R. Jorgensen, formerly of Junction City , KS died Sunday April 24, 2005 at Medicallodge of Leavenworth. She is survived by a sister Jutta "Sissy" (Larry) Phillips, Leavenworth , KS . Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Thursday at the Veterans Cemetery in Fort Riley , KS . The R. L. Leintz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
William Wano
William Wano, 72, of Lansing died Wenesday, April 20, 2005 at his home. He was born October 2, 1932 in Oklahoma City , OK , the son of Eugene and Lucille Wano. He was raised by Ben and Velma Ruth Flaming, Denison , TX . His parents and Mr. Flaming preceded him in death. Mr. Wano was married to Carolyn Anderson from 1965 to 1983. He was a retired police officer, having served for 39 years at the Veterans Administration in Leavenworth , where he was the recipient of numerous service awards over the years. He also received a commendation in 1974 for saving a young boy's life. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1953 as a flight engineer. He was a proud member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. He is survived by three sons; Jerry (& Kimber) Wano of the home, Bill (& Tabatha) Wano, Gladstone , MO , and Steve (& Robin) Wano, Springfield , OH ; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A brother Donald Wano, Stockton, CA, a sister Mary McCarty, Oklahoma City, OK; and best friend Jim Cuer (“Brother Cuerâ€) and wife, Vi, Lansing, KS. Mr. Wano's favorite pastimes were spending time with his sons, coin collecting, and when he was able, he enjoyed woodworking with his best friend. He loved working on motorcycles, which became a passion for him in the 60's. He was preceded in death by a son Rick Meyer, Springfield , OH ; a brother, Ronald Wano, Sonora , CA ; and a sister, Mildred Etheridge, Hugo , TX . A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the R. L. Leintz Funeral Home, 4701 10 th Ave. , Leavenworth , KS . with Pastor and life long friend Forrest Tuter officiating. Following the service, the family will be joining friends in the Community Room of the funeral home for a time fellowship. George P. Huck
George P. Huck, Jr. OD, 59 of Leavenworth died Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City , MO. He was born September 28, 1945 in Kansas City , MO the son of George P. and Florence Bromn Huck, Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He became an Optometrist and has been in practice in downtown Leavenworth for over 25 years. He volunteered his services for the patrons at St. Vincent 's Clinic in Leavenworth and worked part-time at the Dwight D. Eisenhower VAMC in Leavenworth . He was a member of Leavenworth Rotary Club #210 and a Board Member of the Salvation Army in Leavenworth . KS. He is survived by a daughter Amy Huck, Plano , TX . One sister Rosemary Miller, Kansas City , KS . Two nieces Jennifer Fitzmorris and Kate Hogard both of Kansas City , KS . Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 22, 2005 at the R.L. Ralph W. Griffin
Ralph W. Griffin 86 of Leavenworth died Monday April 11, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital . He was born September 7, 1918 in Fowler IN, the son of Charles and Della (DeCamp) Griffin . Ralph attended schools in Fowler where he graduated high school in 1936, he also attended trade schools, received some college courses as well as military special school.
Ralph married Marjorie Ann Witt June 6, 1943 she preceded him in death on May 13, 1974 after her death he married Kathryn Edna Draper, December 28, 1974 she also preceded him in death October 22, 2000. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Raymond, Alton and Donald Griffin.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra L. (Mike) Huey, Leavenworth, Gwynne E (LeRoy) Lesher, Paola, KS, and Judy A. (Joseph) Tarwater, Leavenworth, six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Ralph served in the U.S. Army and the Unites States Marine Corp in WWII. Following his military service he worked for Bell Telephone and the U.S. Army Civil Service in Electronic Communications for 45 years. After his retirement in 1979 he became very involved in, NARFE, Cody Choraliers, he was a tutor for St Mary Outreach Program, Historical Society, American Legion, DAV, Chamber of Commerce, Mason's Lansing Lot, Buffalo Heritage Committee and VFW. He served as a State Officer, a District Officer and worked with the International Teaching Staff of the SPEBSQSA. He taught the business aspect of being a Chapter Secretary.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the R. L. Leintz Funeral Home with Rev. Damian Snyder officiating. Betty June Abbott
Betty June (Kraft) Abbott, 81, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Hillview Nursing Home in Platte City, MO. Betty was born February 7, 1924 in Vasser, KS the daughter of George and Ruth Bechtol Kraft. She lived in the Kansas City area most of her life. She was preceded by her loving husband Tom Abbott.
She is survived by her four children, three sons George Abbott, Napa , CA , Michael Abbott, Parkville , MO , Phillip Abbott, Leavenworth , KS and one daughter Kathy Marshall, Platte City , MO and her dearest cousin Beverly Moyer, Lubbock , TX . She leaves twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Richard A. Clark
Richard A. Clark, Venice , FL , formerly of Leavenworth died in Venice , FL on Monday, March 28, 2005 . He was born in Lakewood , OH and moved Venice FL 20 years ago after retiring from the U.S. Army at Ft. Mead , VA. He retired after 27 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Army Airborne Special Forces. He served at Ft. Leavenworth for a time and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. In Venice he was a member of the Sarasota County Fire Dept. for 12 years and the VFW. He was the Senior Volunteer of the Year for the Sarasota County Schools in 2003 and volunteered at Laurel Nokomis School . He was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria who preceded him in 1974 and a son Jeff Clark who preceded him in 2003.
Survivors include his wife Judi, Venice , FL , two sons Richard (Sista) Clark, Albuquerque , NM and Russ (Bev) Clark of Newport News, VA. Daughters Cathy (Bob) Bray, Tonganoxie , KS , Cindy (Eddie) Mogford and Samantha (Jim) Dorsett both of Venice , FL. and 10 grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Monday at Ft. Helen L. Wilber 72 of Leavenworth, died Friday March 25, 2005 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City , Kansas . She was born February 1, 1933 in Leavenworth .
Helen married Stan Wilber August 9, 1952 in Leavenworth, he survives at the home, she is also survived by four daughters, Sandra (Lyn) Becker, Tonganoxie, Susan Collins, Lansing, Sheryl (Douglas) Parker, Lansing and Sindy Wilber, Leavenworth, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Other survivors include three sisters Joann Manley, Leavenworth , Darlene Marshall, Basehor and Pat Henchek, Lansing , she was preceded in death by a brother Richard Thomas. Gertrude Robinson
Gertrude Robinson, 94, of Leavenworth died Saturday, March 19, 2005 , at her home surrounded by her family. She was born November 7, 1910 in Denison, KS the daughter of Thomas and Agnes Bagley Marshall.
She worked for many years at the Kansas Correctional Facility for Women in Lansing, KS teaching sewing. She continued to be a seamstress out of her home for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Altar Society. She married Harry R. Robinson on Nov. 29, 1934 in Mayetta , KS , he preceded her in death.
She is survived by a brother Richard Marshall, Shawnee , KS , two sisters Helen Kilian, Topeka , KS and Alice Wamego, Holton, KS. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Greg A. Wood, 47 died Thursday March 10, 2005 at his residence. He was born September 18, 1957 in Lawrence, the son of Dixie and Charles Wood.
Greg owned and operated Woody's Car Wash in Leavenworth . He was an active outdoorsman; he particularly enjoyed horses, scuba diving, golf, canoeing, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Rush) Wood and their daughter Natalie, Lansing, his parents Dixie and Charles Wood, Desert Hot Springs, California, his brother Mike and Jennifer Wood, Lansing, also by his mother and father in law Lonnie and Theresa Rush, Leavenworth, Sister in laws, David and Linda Sparks, Leavenworth, Edward and Elaine McClure, Lansing, Jim and Theresa Sloan, Lawrence, Wally and Peggy Winstead, Leavenworth. Brother in laws, Tim Rush, Leavenworth, Robert and Geneva Rush, Leavenworth, Todd and Julie McBroom, Shawnee, and numerous nieces and nephews.

William F. Ewing, 74, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Center in Lansing , KS . He was born July 19, 1930 in Dowds , IA the son of Martin and Florence Grade Ewing . He was a foreman in City Maintenance for Garden City, KS for many years. He married Mary M. Bennett on December 16, 1950 in Bloomfield , IA. She preceded in him death on May 29, 2004 . He is survived by three sons Frank (Mary) Ewing , Leavenworth , KS , Dwight (Dawn) Ewing , Rockwall , TX and Kenneth (Judy) Ewing , Bloomfield , MO. He is also survived by one brother Lee Ewing, Stockpoint , IA. Three sisters Reva McRoy, Bloomfield, MO, Ruth Clark and Florencie Hervey both of Keosauqua, IA and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a step-brother Wayne Grade. NeVada Ann Runnebaum
NeVada Ann Runnebaum, 93, of Leavenworth passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Providence Medical Center . Ms. Runnebaum was born February 6, 1912 at Oketo , KS the daughter of William and Charlotte (Cook) Peterman.
Mrs. Runnebaum was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Past President of the St. Malachy's Catholic Church Altar Society in Beattie , KS . a member of the Lady Knights, Council 900, The Friendship Club, life time member of the VFW Auxillary and Past Madam President of Eagles Auxillary #55. Mrs. Runnebaum graduated from Beattie High School , Beattie , KS in 1929 and attended Emporia Teachers College . She taught elementary school from 1929 to 1935 in rural schools in White Cloud and Hattan Schools where she taught her brother Leo and sister Rosemary. NeVada went on to receive a Cosmetology and Hairdressing Certificate from Caster Beauty Academy and worked in Kansas City , Missouri and Summerfield , Kansas as a beautician. She continued to do beauty work out of her home throughout her lifetime.
She worked for the City of Lansing in the late 60's and early 70's. She was the Democrat Precinct Committeewoman and worked on the election board for many years. Mostly, Mrs. Runnebaum was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her greatest love and spending time with them was her happiest times. Her beautiful smile and spirit will be missed greatly by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Mrs. Runnebaum married Vincent Runnebaum on March 26, 1940 at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie , KS . Vincent preceded her in death on February 14, 1997 . She was also preceded in death by one son Harold Charles, in 1970 and two sisters Rosemary Peterman and Kathryn Peterman Sughrue. Survivors include one brother , Leo Peterman and wife Margaret, East Waterford , Maine , four sons William Runnebaum and wife Sue, Ray Runnebaum and wife , Dea, Donald Runnebaum and wife Norma, all of Leavenworth . Vincent Leo Runnebaum and wife, Jocelyn, Lansing , KS . One daughter Joyce Finnigin, Lansing , KS . 17 grandchildren-Tamara Copeland, Stacey Driscoll, Joe Runnebaum, Raymond Runnebaum, Catherine Beaver, NeVada Passafume, Tim and Jonathan Wiseman, SFC Mike Runnebaum, Cheryl Shockley, Sara Lange, Amy Slaughter, Melissa Allen, Nicholas Runnebaum, Brian Finnigin, Lt. Kevin Finnigin and Keely Finnigin and 20 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Taylor
Phyllis M. Taylor 78, Leavenworth , died Monday February 28, 2005 at Homestead Assisted Living Residence. She was born February 6, 1927 , in Clinton IL the daughter of Clem and Mary Edwards.
She married Ferris L. Taylor Jr. in Excelsior Springs MO. He preceded her in death, February 14, 1998 .
Phyllis is survived by a daughter Marybeth and her husband Mike Morris of Lansing, a Son George and his wife Tamara Taylor of Liberty , MO. Four grandchildren, Amy Berwald, Bryan Taylor, Paige Morris, and Natalie Morris. Two great grandchildren Bryce Berwald, and Bronson Berwald.
Phyllis and Ferris Taylor owned and operated Flowers by Ferris for 30 years in Leavenworth .

Joseph L. Bristow
Joseph L. Bristow 87 Leavenworth, died peacefully on Saturday February 26, 2005 at his home.
He was born January 25, 1918 , the son of Scott and Anna (Beyer) Bristow.
He married Helen Zeugin, his wife for over 62 years, on June 27, 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where they remained parish members. She survives at the home.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles # 55, REAC, and the St. John Hospital Guild.
Joe was blessed with a full and productive life. He was a proud employee of Collard Chevrolet for 35 years as a salesman and sales manager. He previously worked in aircraft production in Wichita and with farm implements in Leavenworth . He retired in 1980 and remained active as a St. John Hospital gift shop and thrift store volunteer. Joe raised large vegetable gardens and grew a variety of fruit trees to help feed his family and to share with friends and neighbors. He was a skillful hunter of small game animals, coyotes, pheasants, and morels. He could repair almost anything and he fabricated tools, parts, and various devices. He enjoyed walking, trading e-mails, playing cards, traveling, attending Elderhostel courses, and participating in league bowling.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sister Helen Bristow, SCL Kansas City, Ks and Pat and spouse John Moulden, Leavenworth: five sons and their spouses, Dick and Carol Bristow, Bernie and Linda Bristow, Ed and Pam Bristow, Rob and Barbara Bristow, all of Leavenworth , and John and Rachel Bristow, Milwaukee, WI: 19 grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leo, who died in infancy.

Verlene B. Freeman 77 Leavenworth, died Friday February 25,2005 at Medicalodge of Leavenworth. She was born March 6 1927 in Independence, MO, the daughter of George and Florence Bowman.
She married Edward L. Freeman on October 15, 1959 he preceded her in death on July 24, 1971 . She grew up in Independence and moved to Leavenworth in 1959. Through out her life she did volunteer work with the Girl Scouts and with the Leavenworth Assistance Center . Until macular degeneration took the majority of her sight she did many hand crafts, and wrote stories and poems.
She was a member of the United Brethren Church and enjoyed attending church functions greatly. She appreciated her church family.
Verlene was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Marjorie Carlson and Nadine Phillips, and one brother, Billy Ray Bowman who died in infancy.
She is survived by three daughters Cyndy Moen, Mayville, ND, Delta (Russell) Anderson, and Karla (Major) Valence, one son Wayne (Sarah) Freeman, all of Leavenworth, ten grandchildren, Rebecca (J.R.) Rodgers, Addam Ford, Ronnette Anderson, Jerr-Ed Freeman, Dakota Freeman and Raylene Freeman all of Leavenworth, Lee James (Heather) Stroble, Grand Forks, ND, Dawn Ford, Manhattan, KS and Michael Ford Jr, who is serving in Iraq, six great grandchildren, and one Sister Vesta White, Levasy, MO.

Mark A. Mendez, 46 of St Joseph , MO died Thursday February 24. 2005 in an auto accident, on I-29 in Missouri . He was born September 23, 1958 in Indianapolis , IN the son of Joseph Mendez and Eileen ( Adams ) Garcia.
Mark was a former Leavenworth resident for many years before moving to St Joseph . He worked for Citicorp in Kansas City , MO.

She worked for many years as a jewelry maker at the Terrific Jewelry Wholesalers in New York until her retirement, when she moved to the area to be near her family. She married Peter Yunker on Jan. 31, 1960 in New York , he preceded her in death. She was an active member of the Truth Tabernacle Church . She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Crook, Tonganoxie , KS and a son Peter Yonker, New Haven , Conn. She is survived by three grandchildren, Sarai, Joshua, and Stephen Crook. Charlotte Lucille Davis
Charlotte Lucille Davis 79 of Lansing, KS died Monday February 14, 2005 at St John Hospital in Leavenworth . She was born on June 4, 1925 , in Emporia , Kansas the daughter and only child of William H. and Sadie (Shoop) Davis. Her health had been declining for several months.
She graduated from the Emporia , Kansas High School in 1943, and from the Newman Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Emporia in 1946. She earned a Master's Degree in Nursing at George Washington University in St. Louis , Missouri in 1966.
Miss Davis had a long career in professional nursing at the Veterans Administration Hospital , beginning in 1947 at the Topeka , Kansas VA hospital (formerly the old Winter General Army Hospital ) where she was a psychiatric staff nurse. She worked at the Kansas City VA Hospital from 1954 to 1964 in psychiatry. She was the Assistant Chief Nurse at the VA Hospital in Knoxville , Iowa from 1966 to 1970, Saginaw , Michigan from 1970 to 1976, and at the Leavenworth , Kansas VA Hospital from 1976 to 1983.
She was an active member of the American Nurses Association during her working years. She was a member and officer of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and participated in the Leavenworth , Kansas VA Nurses' Club. Before and after her retirement in 1983, she enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world, including Europe , China , and Latin America . She also enjoyed playing bridge, needlecrafts, oil painting and reading. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporia , Kansas . She was an independent woman with strong intellectual and professional interests.
Her parents and several cousins preceded her in death. Their will be a gathering of friends to celebrate Charlotte's life at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home 4701 10 th Ave, Leavenworth, Kansas on Thursday, February 17, 2005 from 6 to 7pm. Burial of her cremains will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery , Emporia , Kansas .

Leona Mae. Parks 60 of Easton died Friday February 4, 2005 at the University Of Kansas Hospital. Leona was born July 27, 1944 in Big Lake Texas the daughter of Benjeman Raymond and Frances Jeanette (Estep) Russell. She was a Program Analyst For the National Simulation Center (Beehive) at Fort Leavenworth .
Leona is survived by her companion John G. Kramer Easton, two sons Shelton Edward and his wife Samantha Golden, Robert Wayne, and his wife Kelli Golden both of Amarillo , Texas . One sister Fayona Caulk, Loving, NM. And nine grandchildren, Saxon Lemme, Johnathon Golden, Tiffany Golden, Harley Hildebrandt, Brittany Golden, Amber Golden, Ashlee Golden, Steven Golden and William Golden. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son William LeRoy Golden and a granddaughter Crystal Golden. There will be a visitation Sunday February 6, 2005 at the R.L. Gerald A. (Jerry) Schwinn, 70, of Leavenworth died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Providence Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born March 2, 1934 in Springdale , the son of Adam A. and Margaret C. Sonefeldt Schwinn. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union #168 for over 40 years. Following his retirement he was employed by the Easton Bus Service, driving an activity bus, and farmed with his son on the Schwinn Produce Farm. He was a life-long member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus-3 rd Degree, Third Order of Lay Carmelites, Past President of the K-State Research and Extension Council, of which he was chairman for twelve years. He was a former 4-H Woodworking Leader, Kansas State Fair Woodworking Judge, and judged various other Counties' 4-H projects in Kansas . He married Patricia L. Hund on April 23, 1955 at St Joseph Catholic Church, she survives at the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Margaret Ann Doherty, Plano TX, Mary Beth (Chuck) Schrader, Cameron, MO, Marti (Paul) Dupuis, Leavenworth, two sons Jay (Patti) Schwinn, Perkasie, PA , Joe (Helen) Schwinn, Leavenworth and thirteen grandchildren. She married James Hegarty Jr. on July 13, 1929 in Leavenworth , he preceded her in death on May 20, 2000 . She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Church in Leavenworth . Donald L. Young, 80, of Leavenworth , KS died Friday, January 14, 2005 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City , KS . He was born December 1, 1924 in Fredonia , KS the son of Raymond and Ruth Baze Young. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Medical Corp serving in the Philippines and Japan . He worked for Hallmark Cards in Parsons, KS for thirteen years and then with Hallmark Cards in Leavenworth until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leavenworth for many years. He married Betty L. Trout on May 24, 1958 in Parsons, KS. She survives at the couple's home. Other survivors include two sons Mark (Jeanette) Young, Scottsdale, AZ, David (Janet) Young, Leavenworth, KS and one daughter Sharon (Philip) Tompkins, Spring Hill, KS and 10 grandchildren. Friends may call at the R. L. Leintz Funeral Home from 2-4 PM Sunday. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, KS with burial to follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the DAV.

Margaret Garrett LeBoeuf 71, of Leavenworth died Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at St John Hospital in Leavenworth.. Margaret was born July 13, 1933 in Leavenworth the daughter of James D and Augusta H. Garrett. She was a lifelong resident of Leavenworth and a member of Church of the Open Door. Margaret is survived by two brothers, Patrick E. and Nathan P Garrett, Leavenworth ; three sisters, Mary B. Caswell, Leavenworth, Debbie A. Briscoe, St Joseph, MO., and Dixie R. Orr Modesto, CA. Services will be 1:00 pm Saturday January 8, 2005 at Church of the Open Door, Leavenworth . Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Friday Jan 7, 2005 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be make to a fund for Margaret at Citizens Savings & Loan or in care of the funeral home.
Zola R. "Rose" Notter
Zola R. “Rose†Notter, 81, of Leavenworth died Monday, January 3, 2005 at Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth , KS . She was born November 27, 1923 in Alvo , NE the daughter of William and Mary Oliver Brown. She married Frank P. Notter and traveled with him during his military career; and worked as an Administrative Assistant in various school districts. She is survived by her husband Frank of the couples home, three daughters, two sons, four step-sons, one brother and one sister; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Private family services will held at a later date. The R. L. Leintz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ann Lee Fletcher
Ann Lee Fletcher, 70, of Leavenworth died at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 1, 2005 . She was born January 22, 1934 in Leavenworth the daughter of Harry and Wilhemina Anne "Minnie" Steinbach Edgell Sr. She attended the Old Cathedral School and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1952. She was employed at St. John Hospital for over 25 years working in nursing administration. She married Dan C. Fletcher on October 18, 1952 ; he survives at the couple's home. She is also survived by a daughter Dana (Mark) Harrison , Topeka , KS , one son Kevin C (Debbie) Fletcher, Sioux City, IA, one brother Harry M. Edgell, Jr, Leavenworth, one sister Ove Mae Frisinger, Leavenworth. Four grandchildren Samantha and Danielle Harrison and Kyle and Shawn Fletcher. A Mass of Resurrection will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with Fr. Roy Ontiveros, O.Carm. as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery . A visitation will be Monday from 6-8 PM at the R. L. Leintz Funeral Home, 4701 10 th Ave. Leavenworth , KS 66048 with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM . Following the committal at the cemetery, friends and relatives will gather for a time of fellowship in the Community Room at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to Hospice of Leavenworth in care of the funeral home.
